about

Scalder could be many things. A robot's death song. A triple-header with HAL, a black metal vocalist, and one of those cute-is-creepy children from horror movies. Maybe, just maybe, it's a cry for help from one's own ecological anxiety and apathy.

What we can say for sure is that Scalder is the second of four singles written and recorded by The Nature Centre during COVID-19 lockdown.

The track was written by all members of The Nature Centre in a game of musical consequences, whereby one member would create a 'germ' that would be built upon and manipulated by the other members in turn. The resulting four singles form a loose quadrilogy, linked sonically if not thematically.

lyrics

Now we're out of time
Let's improve our lives!
Like the weather brings us together,
So death defies creed (and success).

They're cutting from the common cloth,
Making us a common code-cum-technicolour robe,
Thinking "woe betide the wearer".

Carry on, carry on…

about

The Nature Centre Birmingham, UK

The Nature Centre plays three-minute pop songs, stuffed with ideas like a suitcase packed too late.

Debut album 'Never Not' is out now! Prog magazine called it "a miniature avant-pop masterpiece", don't ya know.
